What is [info]reboots about?
Reboots is a game centered on reinventing any and all characters from the Marvel 616 universe. Essentially you can take any character from comic canon and instead of adhering to their canon history you can recreate the character entirely. A hero can be turned into a villain or civilian and the same applies to the rest. Certain traits of the character are to stay the same for the sake of unity but you can rewrite the character’s history into something entirely your own. The focus of the game will be that of characters facing their lives as heroes/villains/civilians and the crazy world they live in.

What's a character base and what do I need to take from them?
A character base is the Marvel Character that you are going to reboot. The main thing that you need to draw from the character base is their powers (if applicable), name and/or codename. For example: If you’re going to recreate Wolverine, your character would need to have a healing factor and claws as their powers. Depending on what direction you take the character in, you can choose to keep the codename and/or real name the same (or at least similar) as their canon counterpart.

Does my character need to be good or evil like in the comics?
Nope! You’re creating a new character from a canon-mold, it’s up to you to define your character’s affiliation. You can turn your favorite superhero into a bad guy or the most despicable villain into a do-gooder. The options are endless and we frankly encourage you to try something new! Your character can choose to work on a team, as an independent affiliate or even stand neutral< to everything! The call is yours in the end.

Where and when is this game set?
The game is set in the city of New York during present day 2010. We'll make things easy on everyone and try to keep a current setting for the game. So yes, your character can tweet about their day~

Are there restrictions on characters?
The main restrictions we’ll have in this game is that the following characters wont be playable: Nick Fury, Moira McTaggart, Apocalypse, Loki and Mister Sinister. We’ll advise against rebooting a lot of the god characters just for the sake of not having to severely water down their stories and powers. However if you’d like to pick up a character who is a demi/full god, please contact a mod so we can discuss your ideas that way we don’t have a character who is ridiculously overpowered. Beyond that, no major restrictions exist!

Are there restrictions on played-by's and usernames?
When it comes to PB's remember to keep them appropriate to your character. Brad Pitt wont pass for a sixteen year old student. As far as PB's that wont be allowed we are banning the following PB's: scene/emo, originals and pornstar pb's. Beyond that, everyone else is fair game! When it comes to usernames try to keep them . This means no underscores, numbers or excessive letters. (ie: eyez___beams, n_a_m_e_123, and so on.)

What's the stance on strikethroughs and the posting format?
Strikethroughs are to be regarded as something that was deleted or backspaced and cannot be read. To stay organized, try sticking to this format when posting logs or threads:

WHO:
WHAT:
WHEN:
WHERE:
RATING:

Put your post behind a cut-tag and make sure to lock your post as friends only if your thread or log exceeds the PG-13 rating.

The game does not begin until 07/17/10 so currently there aren't any taken characters to be displayed. The taken post will be unlocked once we go through the adds process and have members to list in the taken characters post. If you're curious about characters that have been held already feel free to browse through this post.

While we certainly enjoy your ideas in regards to the Weapon X project, we should mention that someone held Wolverine as one of the character molds. From what we can remember, I believe they are making mention to the Weapon X project in regards to their character's history. Personally speaking, we dont have an issue with certain places being shifted around such as Weapon X. But just to keep things kosher, our best advise would be to refer you over to the Wolverine player just to make sure that none of your ideas conflict. If anything even more epic ideas may blossom out of that meeting of the minds!

As for breaking the fourth wall, we personally dont have an issue with Wade breaking the wall. (If anything, we too find it funny) As long as the breaking of the wall doesnt interfere with plot events or make any issues, you should be fine with keeping that as one of his many talents.

When it comes to the application, we'd prefer it if you would adhere to the format we created for the application process for the sake of uniformity. However if you'd like to expand and add more details about your character, then by all means we encourage you to run with it! We just want the information we are asking for all applicants to be addressed since that'll help shape the character more. But if you're inspired then go ahead and include any additional information in your post regardless of the format.

The journals are to be regarded like regular journals; they can be used for threading, emails, texts, voice-mails and etc. As for the server that the journals are on, we are regarding them as each team/faction has their own server for journals. So journal posts can be filtered to certain people/teams or left open for everyone to see. Hopefully that makes sense.

We looked over the examples you linked in your post and those should suffice with our requirements. If you'd like to add a first-person example that'd be fine. We are more interested in seeing examples of your ability to write in-character and during a scene/thread.

You can always customize the application however you wish. The format that we present to people is particularly asking for information we feel is important to the creation of the character. We only ask that information to stay constant in their posts. You can customize it or add more to it, if you want!

While James is an interesting character, we are a unsure about whether or not to allow him to be held. The level of his powers is rather high and could get carried away. However since you are proposing watering him down, we are willing to hear any thoughts you may have in rebooting him to determine if we can squeeze him into the game

After thinking it over, as long as his powers stay centered on warping himself then it shouldnt be a problem to hold such a character. Just as a cautionary note: any warping of reality that could affect the game's continuity should be run by us that way we dont have any messy situations to encounter.

the overall concept i've been thinking about in trying to make it work when it comes to as a functional member of a team is that he would have a limited range that he would be able to warp that is essentially a bubble around him & while he could essentially warp reality in that space - once he is no longer occupying that space - everything would revert back to it's original state - so for example he warps a bike into a motorcycle, zooms for a while and suddenly needs a sidecar - bam sidecar, then once he walks away from the motorcycle it reverts to a bike over a period of time depending on the length of change. hope that makes sense - i'm more than happy to tweak and run anything major past you wonderful mods and keep him on a rather tight leash - since his power unleashed could destroy the universe and i totally understand where that could be worrisome as a mod.

Containing his abilities to a limited range is definitely a good thing. Additionally we do like the idea of his warping fading away once he leaves the vicinity. So as long as you keep that limitation in check for him then we dont see any potential problems in holding such a character. Feel free to drop a hold on if you'd like.
